OSDBU hosted the event in partnership with the National Association of Black Women in Construction (NABWIC), commemorating Women’s History Month by focusing on the empowerment of Women Owned Businesses and young women interested in careers within the transportation industry.
Over 300 attendees heard from Brandon Neal, Director, OSDBU; Victor Mendez, Acting Deputy Secretary; Susan Kurland, Assistant Secretary for Aviation & International Affairs; Marianne Markowitz, Acting Administrator, U.S. Small Business Administration; and Ann McNeill, Founder, NABWIC. Attendees learned about new initiatives, resources to help grow their businesses and upcoming contracting opportunities. Agency internship program leads and private sector representatives provided career tips and discussed available resources to high school and college students.
Small businesses participated in an active networking session with state and local transportation representatives, DOT prime contractors, and Small Business Specialists from the various DOT Operating Administrations. The networking session enabled small businesses to market themselves and learn more about potential contracting opportunities.
