Program Activities

Intelligence Division

Summary:  The Intelligence Division is responsible for providing all-source intelligence products to the Secretary of Transportation and the principal staff, to include the Deputy Secretary, the Under Secretary for Policy, the Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs as well as DOT Operating Administrators. The Intelligence Division ensures they are apprised of current developments and longer range trends in international terrorism, global and international issues concerning aviation, trade, transportation markets, trade agreements and a range of other international cooperation and facilitation issues, as they affect U.S. security and international efforts.  In addition to providing intelligence support to the Secretary and principal staff, the Intelligence Division supports a variety of other DOT consumers of intelligence.

Partner Agencies:  Intelligence and Law Enforcement Communities to include the National Counterterrorism Center, the National Joint Terrorism Task Force, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Department of Defense.

Stakeholders:  OST, Operating Administrations

Major Projects:

  • Briefings: Provide scheduled and ad hoc in-depth briefings to the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, the Under Secretary for Policy, and the Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs, and the Operating Administrations and the Protective Service Division.
  • Intelligence Community Coordination: Collaborate and   coordinate with U.S. government Intelligence Community (IC) through meetings and community outreach.
  • Exercise Preparation and Participation:  Provide intelligence support and analysis in performance of the Department’s participation in major exercises.
  • Incident Response:  Performs analytical and coordination functions with the IC and law enforcement community required by the incident at hand, or as tasked by the Secretary and other Department principals.
  • Work Groups,  Committees, Task Forces:  Represents DOT on a wide range of Working Groups,  Committees, and Task Forces dealing with intelligence and security issues to include:  the National Implementation Plan for the War on Terrorism; the Information Sharing Council;  the Office of the Director of National Intelligence Customer Service Synchronization Board, the Interagency Task Force, the FBI’s National Joint Terrorism Task Force, the Global Maritime Intelligence Integration Working Group and the Civil Applications Committee.
