The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Immediate Office of the General Counsel consists of the General Counsel, Deputy General Counsel, Special Counsel, and several administrative staff members.
The General Counsel is the Chief Legal Officer of the Department, providing legal advice and guidance to the Secretary and the secretarial officers and providing oversight and support to the Chief Counsels’ offices of the Operating Administrations. The General Counsel’s office supports and facilitates the achievement of cross cutting Strategic Objectives and other program goals.
In addition to the Immediate Office of the General Counsel, the Office of the General Counsel provides legal guidance and budgetary oversight for the following departmental offices:
