Effective January 19, 2007, until further notice, there is a moratorium on desktop/laptop computer software upgrades from existing software and internet explorer to Microsoft Vista Office 2007 and Internet Explorer version 7 (see the attached memorandum at http://www.dot.gov/ost/m60/ ).  Contracting Officers and purchase card holders are advised that no purchases should be made of these products as directed in the joint memorandum.  The memorandum signed by the Senior Procurement Executive, David Litman and the Chief Information Officer, Daniel Mintz, specifies that within 180 days there will be a Department of Transportation strategic roadmap issued informing you of the agency’s desktop/laptop technology course of action.  The intent of the roadmap is to clarify DOT’s migration direction for FY 2008 and beyond.  Questions or concerns can be directed to Tim Schmidt, Chief Technology Officer at Tim.Schmidt@dot.gov or by phone on (202) 366-2840.
