About Us

The Economic Alliance of Snohomish County (EASC) serves as the Northwest Small Business Transportation Resource Center (NW SBTRC), a regional office of the U.S. Department of Transportation, Office of Small Business. The NW SBTRC executes the U.S. DOT’s small business assistance programs throughout the states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. The goal of the NW SBTRC is to increase the ability of small businesses to compete for and enter into transportation-related contracts at the local, state and federal levels throughout the region. Headquartered in Seattle, the NW SBTRC assists small and disadvantaged businesses in the region by providing procurement, technical, financial and bonding assistance.

Since its inception in 2008, the NW SBTRC has assisted more than 1,800 companies with procurement and technical assistance, and over 11 companies with financial assistance through the U.S. DOT Short Term Lending Program (STLP). The Northwest SBRTC has also assisted over 300 companies obtHelping small business move forward signain their Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certifications and SBA 8(a) certifications.

In 2013, the NW SBTRC conducted 4 Bonding Education Program (BEP) workshops; helping more than 10 companies increase their bonding capacity. As a result of the NW SBTRC’s assistance, approximately $20 million in transportation contracts have been awarded to the SBTRC clients.

The NW SBTRC also executes the U.S. DOT’s Women In Transportation Initiative (WITI), formerly called the Women and Girls Internship Program. WITI specifically places motivated female students into the transportation industry. The NW SBTRC has established program partnerships with 19 universities and colleges for their students to receive credit for participation. Thus far, over 60 female students have participated in internships at transportation agencies, large transportation prime contractors and small businesses throughout the region.
