DOT’s Engages the Public and its Employees in the Creation of its Second Open Government Plan

As DOT prepares to release its second Open Government Plan in April 2012, we are soliciting ideas from the public and Open Government experts about how the Department can continue to advance its efforts in being more transparent, participatory and collaborative. We are looking for your ideas and comments about what DOT should consider for their second Open Government Plan. Please participate in the dialogue at https://opendot20.ideascale.com by early March for consideration in the next version of the plan.

In the spirit of openness, DOT is also engaging its employees in this idea sharing process through its internal collaboration and ideation tool: IdeaHub. An employee idea challenge about the Open Government Plan is happening in parallel with the public dialogue.

DOT’s first Open Government Plan was highly regarded by the White House and independent evaluators. Two years later, DOT has made significant strides toward all the commitments detailed in the plan. To hear about our successes, read the news items we’ve been posting for the last two years here. We will also provide a detailed update on the progress of all those commitments in the next version of the Open Government plan.

For more information about DOT’s Open Government Initiative please contact the DOT Open Government team at open@dot.gov.

Since its inception in 1967, DOT has emphasized open communication with States, municipalities, public officials, grantees, and others members of the public with whom we conduct business. The initiatives outlined in our Open Government Plan are designed to continue and enhance this tradition by instituting changes in DOT’s policy, culture, and technology.
