U.S. - BRAZIL TRANSPORTATION PARTNERSHIP

The United States Department of Transportation and the Federative Republic of Brazil’s Ministry Transportation reaffirmed their partnership with the first Principals’ meeting of the U.S.-Brazil Transportation Partnership on Thursday, May 29, 2014.

Minister of Transportation Cesar Borges and Secretary of Transportation Anthony R. Foxx jointly announced the formation of four initial working groups under the Partnership:

 1) Road and Highway

 2) Railways

 3) Ports and Inland Waterways

 4) Disaster Preparedness and Response.

Both Minister Borges and Secretary Foxx stressed the importance of continuing to address common challenges and to discuss best practices in developing and maintaining a safe, efficient and environmentally friendly transportation system.

The U.S. and Brazilian transportation experts agreed to continue to share information on the topics discussed at the meeting and to hold the first Transportation Partnership Plenary Meeting of the working groups in December of 2014 in Washington, D.C.
