During National Safe Digging Month --as in every month-- call before you dig
In March, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Safety Administrator Cynthia Quarterman reminded Fast Lane readers that excavation damage remains a leading cause of serious pipeline incidents and that, "Damage to pipelines or other underground utilities can easily be prevented with a call to 811, the national hotline that connects you with a local utility locator."
She also advised readers that DOT would offer two new "Call 811" videos during April, National Safe Digging Month and that one of those videos would feature a special guest. I'm here today to introduce you to one of those videos, but it's the one I made, so I can only assume the "special guest" is in the other one--I guess we'll have to wait for next week to find out.
In the meantime, I cannot emphasize to you strongly enough the importance of knowing what's below before you get out that shovel. Whether you're a professional contractor or an amateur gardener, please Call 811 before you get started on a project that requires any digging at all.
