TransAmerica Corridor (Future I-66) - Kentucky

This project proposes the construction of a new route from KY 80 east of Somerset to I-75 south of London. The purpose of the project is to provide economic development by improving accessibility throughout southern Kentucky to jobs, industry, urban centers, educational facilities, tourism, and recreational facilities. The project is a 27-mile segment of the TransAmerica Corridor (Future I-66). Several route alternatives are under consideration, including using parts of the existing KY 80. The completion of this section will connect the Cumberland Parkway with the Daniel Boone Parkway, thus creating a continuous fully controlled access roadway across Kentucky from Paducah to Hazard, a distance of over 350 miles. The project has been delayed by various concerns related to potential impacts to the Daniel Boone National Forest as well as to nearby wild river crossings, karst formations, and cave systems.
