IdeaHub
The Concept
Ideation is a new creative process of generating, developing, and communicating ideas. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was the first government agency to launch an ideation program in 2007. Several other Federal agencies have also launched ideation programs, i.e., the State Department (Sounding Board) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Idea Lab). The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is the first Federal government agency to implement an ideation program (IdeaHub) Department-wide.
What is it?
IdeaHub is an online community that facilitates innovation and collaboration within the DOT and the Operating Administrations (OAs). It’s designed to bring comprehensive, cultural change to the DOT through the use of a collaborative website. IdeaHub is more than a suggestion box. Through this exciting online community, you and your colleagues will be able to submit, comment on, improve, and rate each other’s ideas. No idea is too big or too small.
Do you have an idea about how to make your workplace safer, or to improve our Nation’s infrastructure? Share it with the rest of us! Let’s harness our collective wisdom and transform it into tangible programs and processes that can make the Department more effective and our workplace more collegial.
How it Works?
DOT employees will have the ability to develop and rate ideas on programs, policies, and processes at the OA and Departmental levels that should improve the work environment. Employees are encouraged to build new ideas; participate in conversation about their ideas and the ideas of others; read the comments and ideas posted; and rate ideas. IdeaHub depends on the active participation of employees to accomplish its mission of open communication, and dedicated agency improvement. YOU can use IdeaHub to change your workplace, and have an active, visible role in improving the organization.
