Cyber Security Training DVD Now Available to the Maritime Industry.  The Maritime Administration has announced the availability of a free, computer-based training course (CBT) on cyber-threats in the maritime environment.  The DVD will assist vessel owners and operators, merchant mariner unions, maritime academies, and other maritime organizations with training U.S. mariners on best practices to reduce the risks and vulnerability associated with information systems and devices.  The CBT was developed through a cooperative agreement with the Ship Operations Cooperative Program (SOCP) and can be obtained by visiting the “Products” tab on their website at http://www.socp.us/  Contact:  Kim Strong 202-366-5067.

The Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration issued a safety advisory notifying the public of unsafe fire extinguishers.  Always Safe Fire Extinguisher and Safety, LLC (ASFES) of Yonkers, New York, marked an unknown number of high-pressure, compressed-gas cylinders with unauthorized markings.  These cylinders could rupture, as they were not tested to the Hazardous Materials Regulations standards.  Prior to refilling or continued use, the cylinders must be checked by a DOT-authorized cylinder requalifier to ensure their suitability for continued service.  A list of authorized requalifiers may be obtained at this website: http://www.phmsa.dot.gov/hazmat/regs/sp-a/approvals/cylinders.
