Transportation Safety Institute Offers Free Online Training for Transit Employees. The Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) recently released its newest online training course, Fatigue and Sleep Apnea Awareness for Transit Employees.  Funded by the Federal Transit Administration in response to National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recommendations, this free training is designed to inform and guide transit operators and system personnel regarding the identification of and treatment for obstructive sleep apnea and other sleep disorders, as well as general concepts about sleep and fatigue.  Information includes sleep states, stages, and strategies; sleep apnea and other sleep disorders; circadian rhythms; nutrition and exercise; and over-the-counter medications. The purpose of the course is to educate transit operators about the dangers of drowsy driving and to help them identify if they are at risk so they can seek treatment.  TSI offers courses covering a variety of topics in most transportation modes.
