Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Governmental Affairs

Heideh ShahmoradiHeideh Shahmoradi currently serves as the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Governmental Affairs for the U.S. Department of Transportation.  In this capacity, Ms. Shahmoradi serves as the principal advisor to the Secretary on legislative issues and congressional relations and on the Department's relationship with state and local governments and their associations.  

Prior to joining the Office of the Secretary as Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Governmental Affairs in 2007, the Department detailed Ms. Shahmoradi to the
U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations assisting senior staff on various transportation policies, funding issues and legislation (2006-2007).  She was also detailed to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works for nearly three years assisting Members of Congress and staff on reauthorization efforts of the surface transportation bill (2002-2005). 

Ms. Shahmoradi began her career at the U.S. Department of Transportation in 1994 with the Federal Highway Administration working in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer.

With nearly 15 years with the Department, she has spent her formative years in the DC metropolitan area.  She holds a B.S. degree in Business Administration and an M.A. degree in Administrative Management from Bowie State University.  

She and her husband, Torrance, have one son, Corey.  They reside in Bowie, Maryland.
