U.S. Department of Transportation 12th Annual University Transportation Center Student of the Year Awards Are Announced
The
12th Annual University Transportation Center (UTC) Student of the Year Awards,
sponsored by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), has recognized the
accomplishments of students in transportation-related fields.
Research
and Special Programs Administrator Ellen G. Engleman announced the awards
honoring the outstanding students from participating UTCs for their achievements
and promise for future contributions to the transportation field. Students were selected by their schools based on their
accomplishments in such areas as technical merit and research, academic
performance, professionalism, and leadership.
The
Research and Special Programs Administration (RSPA) administers the UTC program
with funding from the Federal Highway Administration and the Federal Transit
Administration. DOT also honors an
awardee from the Air Transportation Centers of Excellence, sponsored by the
Federal Aviation Administration.
"These
students are extraordinary, and they are the future of transportation
technology," said Administrator Engleman.
"We are very proud that our program has fostered and encouraged them
to make such excellent contributions, and we hope they will pursue
transportation careers."
All
of the UTCs conduct combined programs of research, education, and technology
transfer activities. The UTC
program has produced more than 1,200 research reports, and involved more than
3,500 university students and faculty in the study of transportation.
