That Might Be Found in a
Home and Household
Hazardous Wastes. Information
also will be placed on tabletop displays for the Cafeteria.
Community:
The lobby display will have a panel highlighting Volunteering for
America/Community Action/Employee Safety to protect and enhance our environment.
Included will be a Bookmark Earth Day Handout.
Also our new Beneficial Landscaping Guide will be available.
Classroom: The lobby display will have a number of Earth Day handouts covering recycling and improving students understanding of Earth Day concepts. The FAA Center for Childhood Development (Daycare Center) will have an Earth Day coloring contest. The children will prepare drawings about Earth Day and brief statements of what Earth Day means to them. A panel will select the twelve best entries, and we will later compile them into a calendar.
Regions/Centers
Northwest
Mountain Region, Seattle, WA-
The
manager of King County Mobile Disposal Site will make a special presentation to
employees on household hazardous wastes. The presentation will include: a
display showing which household chemicals are hazardous, what are suitable
replacements for the same job, and which chemicals that may not be hazardous can
become so if mixed with other chemicals. The event will be held in Fred Isaac
Multipurpose Room at the Regional Headquarters.
Aeronautical Center, Oklahoma City, OK-
Earth Day activities include: Annual tree dedication for Arbor Day.
Annual seedling tree giveaway (500 trees are handed out to employees for
planting around the Oklahoma City area). Various vendor and Aeronautical Center
display tables will be available for employees to view and take information with
them. Materials will include
interactive, educational and informational fact sheets about energy conservation
and environmental programs.
Eastern Region, New York City, NY-
On Earth Day, the Eastern Region Environmental Network will be handing out information from the Cornell Cooperative Extension about: 1) plants for home and garden, 2) residential landscape maintenance, 3) composting, 4) integrated pest management, 5) healthy soil maintenance, 6) vegetable planting, and 7) pruning. The information will be handed out in Eastern Region’s building lobby on Earth Day.
