Statement from U.S. Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta on the
U.S. Commission on Oceans Policy Final Report, An Ocean Blueprint for the
21st Century
“I would like to commend the U.S. Commission on Oceans Policy for all of its excellent work in preparation of its Final Report, An Ocean Blueprint for the 21st Century. We at the Department of Transportation appreciate the Report’s strong focus on the Maritime Transportation System, a critical element of our country’s vast transportation network. As the U.S. economy continues to expand and President Bush pursues greater international trade liberalization, the importance of our maritime transportation infrastructure, as well as commercial use of the oceans, will grow. The federal government must take an active leadership role in responding to those challenges, and DOT is excited to continue working with all of its Administration colleagues to clearly define that role.”
