Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta Announces February Departure of
Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy Emil Frankel
U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta today announced that Emil
Frankel, Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy at the Department of
Transportation, will resign his job effective February 11 to return to the
private sector. The Secretary praised Frankel’s accomplishments and dedication
to surface transportation policy during a three-year tenure.
“Emil’s thoughtful insight and his understanding of transportation’s relevance
to the economy will be missed,” Secretary Mineta said. “His leadership on
transportation policy issues has had a tremendous impact on our work at the
Department.”
Assistant Secretary Frankel helped coordinate the development of the
Administration’s surface transportation reauthorization proposal, also known as
SAFETEA. He also helped lead the development of proposals to reform intercity
passenger rail and strengthened the Department’s commitment to intermodal
transportation issues, Mineta said.
