Secretary Mineta Welcomes Read Van de Water To U. S. Transportation Department As Assistant Secretary for Aviation, International Affairs
U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta welcomed Read Van de Water as the Department’s new Assistant Secretary of Transportation for Aviation and International Affairs. Van de Water was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Sept. 21 and sworn in on Sept. 25.
“Read’s long experience in business, government and economic and trade policy will be a great asset to the Department and the country,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta said. “I will look to her for leadership, especially as we increase our international aviation agreements and implement the NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) truck and bus provisions.”
“I am honored to be selected by President Bush and Secretary Mineta for the team at the U.S. Department of Transportation, and I look forward to helping advance the Administration’s ambitious agenda for the United States in international aviation and trade,” Ms. Van de Water said.
Van de Water
is the founder of Carson King Consulting, an employment consulting and placement
service for people in government and public affairs, which she has managed since
2000. From 1997 to 1999, she was
the legislative counsel for international trade and investment with the Business
Roundtable, and from 1991 to 1997, she served as legislative counsel and
director of government affairs for Northwest Airlines.
She served as appropriations associate and legislative assistant to U.S.
Congressman Tom DeLay (Texas) from 1987 to 1991.
Van de Water graduated from the University of the South in 1986.
She received a master’s degree from The George Washington University
and her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
