Statement from Secretary of Transportation Norman Y. Mineta Regarding Release of Transportation Services Index (TSI) for October, 2004

“Today’s record high Transportation Services Index (TSI) shows just how important transportation is to the American economy.  The fact that we have seen three straight years of growth in passenger and cargo traffic is a clear indication that our economy is strong and getting stronger every day.  More passengers and more cargo are moving throughout the country today than at any point since we started measuring the TSI.  More importantly, because travel today means sales and new business tomorrow, we can expect from increases in the TSI that the American economy is on track for even more growth.”
