ANNOUNCE AIRPORT GRANTS FOR TENNESSEE
Vice President Al Gore and Transportation Secretary Rodney E. Slater today announced the award of $6.8 million for improvements at airports in Tennessee.
"Traffic at Tennessees airports has helped fuel the regions vibrant economy," said Vice President Gore. "President Clinton and I are committed to strengthening economic security and improving transportation safety. This investment is good for the economy of Tennessee and our nation."
The bulk of the funding, $4.8 million, was awarded to the state government for various airport development projects under the state block grant program.
There were two grants to individual airports. Nashville International Airport received $1.7 million to construct water quality and drainage treatment facilities. In addition, Chattanoogas Lovell Field received $300,000 to acquire land for noise compatibility.
The funds come from the Federal Aviation Administrations Airport Improvement Program.
