VICE PRESIDENT’S HAMMER AWARD GOES
TO ONE-STOP WEB SITE FOR STATES AND LOCALITIES
A web site that provides one-stop electronic access to transportation and other federal government information has received Vice President Gore’s special recognition, the Hammer Award.
"Information about the federal government is easier to find than ever before. This is what Vice President Gore means by re-inventing government," Secretary Slater said. "Our partners in state and local governments and the general public will undoubtedly find this website useful."
The website, available at http://www.statelocal.gov, is an electronic gateway to federal information listed by topic. Links for current issues and news by subject are also included. Previously, searches of multiple federal agency web sites were required to find the same information.
Developed by 17 federal agencies and state and local partners in coordination with the National Performance Review, the state and local gateway offers a reference room for most requested information, allows searches of available federal information on the Internet, and hotlinks to other web sites. There are also links to state and local government home pages.
The "Transportation and Infrastructure" link provides users with information on infrastructure funding as well as laws and regulations. Reference materials and other links related to transportation are also available.
