D.C. Bar Advice & Referral Clinic

Saturday, February 14, 2015

9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Bread for the City (Southeast Location)

1640 Good Hope Road, S.E.

The Clinic is an excellent opportunity to provide discrete, time-limited pro bono assistance without committing to a future obligation.  At the Clinic, pro bono volunteer lawyers meet with D.C. residents to discuss legal problems that could involve bankruptcy/debt collection, consumer law, employment law, family law, health law, housing and landlord/tenant, personal injury, and probate (wills and medical directives). Volunteers only conduct intake and provide referrals. No prior experience is required and volunteers are not responsible for follow up legal work beyond referrals (but are free to do so!)

No specific background or experience in the substantive legal areas is necessary to participate in the Clinic. There is a half hour orientation for volunteers in the morning before the Clinic opens at 10 am. If Clinic volunteers cannot resolve the questions or problems with common sense advice, they can refer the residents to a legal or social service provider appropriately suited to handle the case or volunteers can choose to continue to assist the clients with their legal problems. Experienced lawyers are on hand for the volunteer lawyers to consult with if necessary.

This is a wonderful way to provide pro bono services to your community.  Volunteering just one time is easy and rewarding.
