Strategic Objective: Safety
| Promote
the public health and safety by working toward the
elimination of transportation-related deaths and
injuries. |
|
We Aim To Achieve These Strategic Outcomes:
- Reduce the number of transportation-related deaths.
- Reduce transportation-related injuries.
Safety is our most important strategic goal. Transportation
enables the movement of people and goods, fueling our economy and
improving our quality of life. However, transportation exposes people,
property and freight to the risk of harm. We strive to improve the
benefits of transportation while constantly reducing its risk to
health and well being. The FY 2004 budget proposes $14.4 billion
for safety programs to maintain our progress in reducing transportation-related
fatalities and injuries.
A detailed analysis of our 2004 strategies follows.
